Following on from last week’s casting of PARKS AND RECREATION’s Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, comes news that GAME OF THRONES star Jason Momoa has been offered one of the key roles after a barnstorming audition for director James Gunn earlier this week.

Given his proclivity for mascara, you’d be forgiven for thinking Momoa was testing for Rocket Raccoon, but no, he’ll be playing the part of Drax the Destroyer instead (if new reports prove true).

Drax the Destroyer first appeared in the pages of IRON MAN in 1973, and was a human by the name of Arthur Douglas whose parents were murdered by Thanos (aka that big purple dude at the end of AVENGERS ASSEMBLE). A being named Kronos transplanted Douglas’ spirit into a new alien body with the express intention of creating a warrior powerful enough to defeat Thanos. Spoiler alert: he didn’t win. The green-skinned Drax has several powers including super-strength, flight, and the ability to survive in deep space. Oh, and he can also shoot laser balls from his palms too. Sweet.
