Acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky is front-running the queue for lunar project Moonfall, which will see the Brooklyn-born director potentially work with David Weil’s original sci-fi script.  This project has been circulating the Hollywood hemisphere for quite some time now and Aronofsky isn’t the only kid on the block showing an interest.

Arguably best known for his twisted and pill-chomping adaptation Requiem for a Dream and Natalie Portman’s Oscar triumph Black Swan, this particular opportunity to visit the realm that Alfonso Cuaron so recently nailed is something that he clearly finds enticing.  Minuscule details have surfaced regarding the plot of Moonfall, but on the grapevine lies a few clues which takes us down the road of space colonisation with a tone inspired by none other than the Coen Brothers.

Aronofsky is a man who has dropped out of a number of interesting projects in his career, which includes HBO’s World War 2 illusionist adventure Hobgoblin (this never found the screen) and James Mangold-helmed The Wolverine, but hopefully the director who gave Russell Crowe an ARK will be able to swallow this latest meal and head into the mysterious and ever-present black.
