The second half of last year saw plans announced to develop MINORITY REPORT for the small screen. Now comes word, courtesy of Variety, that FOX has given the green light to the show’s pilot as part of its 2015/16 season.

Steven Spielberg’s 2002 movie, starring Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton and Max von Sydow, will be the series’ jumping off point. In that film, Cruise played a law enforcement officer working for a special unit who use a group with precognitive abilities to stop crimes before they even happen. That film itself was based on Philip K. Dick’s THE MINORITY REPORT short.

This new incarnation of the tale will reportedly be set 10 years after the events of Spielberg’s film, with the action focusing on one of three precogs and their struggle to lead a normal life due to the twisted visions of the future that they keep receiving. Also intertwined in the story will be a detective with a tormented past.

GODZILLA’s Max Borenstein is on writing duties, whilst Kevin Falls will act as showrunner. Borenstein and Falls will also serve as executive producers alongside Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. 20th Century Fox TV and Paramount TV will be developing the pilot.
