Talk of a Beetlejuice sequel has been ongoing for years now, but the chances of one happening picked up majorly in the past year when both Winona Ryder and Tim Burton talked up the possibility of a follow-up to Burton’s 1988 classic. Well, star Michael Keaton now thinks that the chance to do a sequel may well have passed.

Speaking to Variety about the chances of a Beetlejuice sequel, Keaton said, “It’s possible that ship has sailed. The only way to do it is to do it right. So much of it was improvised and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton. If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone.”

The hugely talented Keaton, who famously headlined the original Beetlejuice, then added, “There are certain movies that are like Indian burial grounds. You never ride over them. Bad shit happens if you cross that. You don’t touch certain things. They are sacred.”

This all comes on the back of Burton recently saying it’s way too soon to firm anything up over a Beetlejuice sequel, and maybe now we all just have to admit that maybe, just maybe, The Ghost with the Most won’t be making a return to the big screen any time soon.

As ever, expect more on all of this as and when things develop.
