Consider this amongst the most brilliant news pieces you’ll read all week, but it’s being reported that Michael Keaton is in talks to play the villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Variety has the scoop, claiming that the actor, who of course famously played Batman in Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns, is in early talks to join this new Spidey movie. No details are known on just who he’s in talks to play, but it’s believed to be the main villain of the film. It was only yesterday that we brought word that The Vulture could be used as the ‘big bad’ of Homecoming, so could we see Keaton in talks to play Adrian Toomes? Quite possibly so. He’d certainly be an inspired choice to play that character.

If Keaton, who cemented his place as one of the greatest actors of his generation in headlining Birdman, was to join this new Spider-Man movie, he’ll join as cast that includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and Zendaya as a female lead called Michelle.

To be directed by Cop Car’s Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for a July 7th, 2017 release. Before that, Holland’s Wallcrawler will make his MCU bow when Captain America: Civil War hits UK screens on April 29th.
