While the third Annabelle movie is busy assembling its cast, we’ve now got word that Michael Chaves will be directing The Conjuring 3.

Courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting, Chaves will be replacing James Wan in the director’s chair. Wan will still be involved, mind, with him producing through his Atomic Monster banner.

Chaves has worked with Atomic Monster before, having helmed next year’s The Curse of La Llorona, and now he’s been tasked with tackling one of the biggest franchises in modern horror.

Both Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are expected to return for The Conjuring 3, as we get the continued spooky adventures of the Warrens. To date, this whole shared Conjuring universe has amassed five movies – two Conjuring films, two Annabelle efforts, and The Nun – and there’s at least three more pictures in the pipeline with The Conjuring 3, Annabelle 3, and The Crooked Man.

The current plan is for The Conjuring 3 to go into production next year.
