Ever since it was revealed that Spider-Man will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make his bow in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, fans have been speculating on just who will be under the mask, with some suggesting it may be the Miles Morales version of everyone’s favourite Wallcrawler. But now it’s official: we’ll be getting a teenage Peter Parker in the MCU.

Speaking to Collider, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige revealed, “In terms of the age of the actor we’ll eventually cast, I don’t know. In terms of the age of what we believe Peter Parker is, I’d say 15-16 is right. Some of my favourite Spider-Man arcs and Spider-Man stories, he’s in high school for a lot of it. We want to explore that. That also makes him very, very different from any of our other characters in the MCU, which is something else we want to explore: how unique he is when now put against all these other characters.”

Adding to this, Feige revealed to Crave Online that Peter Parker already exists in the MCU and that the first solo MCU Spidey film will not be another origin story (hooray!). Feige said, “There is a young kid already running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU. You just don’t know it yet. In Spider-Man’s very specific case, where there have been two retellings of that origin in the last whatever it’s been – thirteen years – for us we are going to take it for granted that people know that and the specifics.”

Feige continued, “We’ve already designed the costume, which is different than any of the ones that have come before. And yet ours is classic Spidey, as I think you’ll see.”

Some interesting comments for sure, and we’re sure long-time Spider-Man fans will be happy to hear that it will definitely be Peter Parker under the mask. As for the high school element, given that the original 616 Parker only spent 28 issues in high school, you’d have to think that this cinematic Webhead may very well pull plenty from the “Ultimate” Spider-Man, which was focussed completely on Parker’s high school and teen years.

Spider-Man will make his debut in the Russo’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR on May 6th, 2016, which has already begun shooting. As such, it’s expected that a casting announcement will happen imminently. Once CIVIL WAR is out of the way, all Spidey attention will then be directed to the Wallcrawler’s first MCU solo movie on July 28th, 2017, which will be written and directed by Drew Goddard.
