Following on from yesterday’s news that Ian McShane has joined Game of Thrones, today brings word that Max von Sydow will also be a part of the show’s upcoming sixth season.

EW is reporting that the actor, best known for the likes of The Exorcist and Minority Report and soon to be seen in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, is to play the Three-Eyed Raven. The character is a mystical mentor of Bran Stark and briefly appeared in the Season 4 finale, where he was played by a different actor.

Game of Thrones returns for Season 6 next year.
