Following speculation earlier this year, it’s now been confirmed that Max Landis is indeed working on a remake of An American Werewolf in London for Universal. It was Landis’ father John, of course, who directed the original 1981 classic.

Deadline is reporting that Max Landis will not only write this new take on an old favourite, but he’ll also be directing. The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman and David Albert will be producing through their Skybound Entertainment banner. Max is likely best known to genre fans for writing the  likes of Chronicle, American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein and creating the Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency TV series.

The original An American Werewolf in London is revered as an all-time classic of the genre, with the central plot focussing on two American college student who end up attacked by a werewolf while on their way to London. With its engaging story, revolutionary special effects work, and taunt direction, An American Werewolf in London is still a fond favourite of many to this very day. That film would be followed by the so-so An American Werewolf in Paris in 1997.

All is said to be very much in the infancy right now on this remake, but expect more on this as and when it develops.
