At the start of the week, Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey revealed that he’s had talks with both Marvel Studios and Warner Brothers about possibly appearing in a Marvel or DC movie, and now it appears he could be set to land a role in the MCU.

Now take this as purely a rumour for now, but That Hashtag Show is reporting that Marvel Studios and Sony are eager for McConaughey to take on the part of Norman Osborn in their upcoming Spider-Man solo movie. As well as becoming The Green Goblin, more recent years have also seen Norman become Iron Patriot, playing a significant part in the aftermath of Civil War.

Spider-Man will make his debut in next May’s Captain America: Civil War then shoot off to his own 2017 solo film. At this stage, it’s believed that Ender’s Game’s Asa Butterfield is in the final stages of signing a deal to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Webhead.

As for Norman Osborn, we’ve previously seen him on the big screen played by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and by Chris Cooper in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man series. McConaughey has confirmed that he’s had talks for roles in the MCU and the DCCU, so could it be that one of those roles is that of Norman Osborn, aka The Green Goblin?

At present, the solo Spider-Man movie has yet to find a director, although Marvel Studios and Sony are supposedly looking at Jonathan Levine, Ted Melfi, Jason Moore, Jared Hess, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm their Wallcrawler movie.

On the “McConaughey for Osborn” story, as mentioned, treat this as purely rumour for now. Still, it would be pretty cool though, right?

After making his MCU bow in May 6th, 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, Spidey’s solo adventure is currently booked in for July 28th, 2017.
