Before the Jeremy Renner-starring THE BOURNE LEGACY had even hit screens, fans were already calling for Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne to return to the franchise. That seemed like a no-go until the last few months, when rumours started to circulate that said both Damon and director Paul Greengrass were in talks with Universal to return for another Jason Bourne-focussed effort. Now comes some apparent confirmation that Damon will indeed be returning to the series.

Both Damon and long-time buddy Ben Affleck spoke to E! Online about the situation, with Affleck first revealing, “He is going to be doing a BOURNE movie next fall.” Damon himself then added, “It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one.”

It was previously believed that a Damon return to BOURNE was to take the July 15th, 2016 release date that was originally pencilled in for a Jeremy Renner-starring BOURNE film. Where this leaves a Renner return, that’s still unknown.

Expect more on this as it develops.
