In a brief update on the solo Netflix series for Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher, it appears that the show could be arriving on the on-demand service next year.

We’d previously known that Bernthal’s Frank Castle, who debuted in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil earlier this year, was to get his own show down the line, but details remained hazy on just when that would be. Given that Marvel’s Luke Cage was arriving later this year, and then Marvel’s Iron Fist and Marvel’s The Defenders were set for 2017, it looked as if we’d have to wait until 2018 at the earliest before we got The Punisher cracking skulls in his own series.

Well, ComicBook.com is reporting the below image as a screen grab from Netflix’s mobile app, which seems to indicate that Marvel’s The Punisher is indeed going to be debuting at some point in 2017.

To date, Marvel has been dishing out two Netflix shows a year, but could that be about to change? Maybe. All we know for now, though, is that Marvel’s Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter, will be hitting Netflix on September 30th. After that, no further release dates have been confirmed at this stage, although the Finn Jones-headlined Marvel’s Iron Fist will be the first Marvel/Netflix show of next year, followed by the coming together of Colter’s Power Man, Jones’ Iron Fist, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil for Marvel’s The Defenders. After that, Ritter’s Jones will get a second season of her own show.

As ever, expect more on this as we get it.
