It was only last week that there seemed hope that Marvel’s The Inhumans wasn’t as dead as some feared, and now it’s been confirmed that The Inhumans will be getting their own series… on the big screen.

Previously, of course, Marvel’s The Inhumans was a confirmed part of Marvel Studios’ upcoming movie slate, with a ‘Phase 3’ or ‘Phase 4’ release expected. Then the film was completely removed from the MCU slate, suggesting an uncertain future at best for the superhuman race. Hope was around the corner, though, when the concept of The Inhumans was slowly introduced into Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and now their future sees them part of a unique new setup.

IMAX Corp., Marvel Television and Disney|ABC Television Group has revealed that Marvel’s The Inhumans will be a live-action TV series that will exclusively premiere in IMAX commercial cinemas. This unique arrangement will see the first two episodes of The Inhumans run exclusively in IMAX for two weeks in September 2017. ABC will then debut the weekly episodic series with additional content that will only be available on the network.

IMAX, ABC, and Marvel Television will be coming together to work on a joint marketing campaign across their regular platforms, marking this new series as the first ever to have a cross-platform marking launch. It’s also the first time that IMAX will be a financing participant in a TV series.

On this development, Disney|ABC Television Group’s Ben Sherwood said, “This unprecedented alliance represents a bold, innovative approach to launching great TV content for a worldwide audience. It highlights Disney|ABC’s unrelenting commitment to finding new and creative ways to showcasing our very best programming and increasing global engagement and reach.”

IMAX’s Rich Gelfond added, “This first-of-its-kind multi-platform production, distribution and marketing agreement brings together Marvel Television’s unique brand of entertainment, ABC’s unparalleled audience and IMAX’s brand and global fanboy demographic. It also takes our decades-long relationship with The Walt Disney Company to a whole new level, jointly breaking new ground in the industry. We are confident our exhibition partners will be excited to work with us on this innovative launch of a series across the IMAX network.”

Expect to hear a whole lot more on this unique approach to Marvel’s The Inhumans as and when it develops.
