Having been a long-standing rumour, Deadline is reporting that Mark Wahlberg has finally signed on to headline Peter Berg’s THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. The former Dirk Diggler will, of course, be playing Steve Austin in this adaptation of the famed ‘70s TV show. Wahlberg and Berg have previous together, with Berg having helmed the Wahlberg-starring LONE SURVIVOR.

Not to be confused with the beer-drinking, finger-waving, stunner-giving wrestler, THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN’s Steve Austin is a former astronaut who ends up badly injured after a plane crash. Saved by doctors, Austin is fitted with bionic legs, a bionic right arm, and a bionic eye. With these new bionic-based skills, he winds up working as an agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.

No exact release date is known for THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN at this stage, although the very vague word is that the film will go into production next year with a view for a 2016 release.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
