Since its debut, THE FLASH has been receiving praise from both fans and critics alike. The CW’s Scarlet Speedster-centric show has managed to become its own beast whilst also tying nicely to sister-show ARROW and additionally paying plenty of respect to Flash happenings of yesteryear. Once such nod to the past is the casting of former Flash John Wesley Shipp, who headlined the 1990s FLASH series, as Barry Allen’s father, whilst Amanda Pays is to reprise her Tina McGee role for the current show. Now comes word that Mark Hamill will similarly be returning to a familiar role (no, we’re not on about that Starkiller fella).

Hitfix is reporting that Hamill will be playing James Jesse, aka The Trickster, in the current FLASH series – a role he also played back in the ‘90s show, not to mention voicing in JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED. This time out, Jesse will be behind bars and will lend his assistance to Barry Allen in order to hunt down a Trickster wannabe.

Hamill will debut in Episode 17 of the show, with the description of the character reading:

“Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of Jesse James (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the ‘90s FLASH series. In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original Flash on the CBS version.”

On the news, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of THE FLASH. Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes! We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!”

The performance of Hamill as The Trickster was one of the highlights of the far-too-short-lived FLASH show of the ‘90s, with his turn there eventually leading him to lend his vocals to The Joker in BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES and receiving a whole host of praise and new fans as a result of his work as the Clown Prince of Crime.

Expect to see Hamill’s Trickster return in the first half of 2015, before he’ll then be seen in a galaxy far, far away later on in the year.
