With the Marvel Cinematic Universe having now found its Spider-Man in the shape of Tom Holland, the attention of Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures has now turned to Aunt May.

Variety is reporting that Marisa Tomei has had talks over the May Parker role, and the Oscar-winning actress was reportedly offered the part last week. Best known for the likes of The Wrestler and My Cousin Vinny, Tomei hasn’t signed on to play May just yet. The role itself would be for the new solo Spidey movies, with it believed that a trilogy named Spectacular Spider-Man is currently being planned.

May has appeared previously in live-action, played by Rosemary Harris in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and by Sally Field in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man movies. And whilst she may look young, believe it or not but Marisa Tomei is actually 50 years of age. In more recent years, rather than the frail old Aunt many will be familiar with, May Parker has often been portrayed as a slightly younger, more ‘hip’ character in the Marvel comic book world, which could well be a direction that the new cinematic version of May takes.

As for Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will make his MCU debut in next May’s Captain America: Civil War before getting his first solo film in July 2018.

Expect to hear more on all of this as it develops.
