With sequels always a common theme amongst horror efforts, it’s no real surprise to see that a follow-up is now on the way for 2013’s Mama.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that the original film’s director, Andres Muschietti, won’t be returning. Instead, Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer, the duo behind Starry Eyes, are in talks to write and direct what’s currently being referred to as simply Mama 2.

Muschietti’s film told the tale of two children who went missing on the night that their parents died. After five years, they’re discovered in a feral state and then brought back into society by their uncle and his other half. Things take a turn for the creepy when an eerie maternal figure known as Mama is attached to the kids, causing terror for all involved.

No details are known on how Mama 2 will follow on from the first film, especially given the ending of the 2013 movie, but it’s been confirmed that Jessica Chastain will not be back for this sequel. In fact, chances are that we’ll see an entirely new cast tormented by a story similar to what we see in Mama.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
