In arguably the worst trend in modern cinema, video game movies are by and large pretty awful. That’s not to say there isn’t oodles of potential (there is) but not one project has been given enough room to breathe with a decent cast and crew. Neil Druckman’s THE LAST OF US may very well be the film to shatter perceptions, but a movie based on the critically acclaimed PlayStation 2 game SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS might just be a shoe-in.

Deadline has revealed that Andrés Muschietti, brains behind the horror flick MAMA, is set to direct Sony’s big budget adaptation. The director’s sister and production partner, Barbara, is producing alongside Kevin Misher via Misher Films. Muschietti is overseeing the script, which is being penned by Hanna scribe Seth Lochhead.
