The Dwayne Johnson-headlined big screen adaptation of classic video game Rampage is close to landing its ‘big bad’.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Malin Akerman is currently in talks for the main villain of the piece, with the actress believed to be close to inking a deal with New Line Cinema. Akerman is best known to genre fans for her turn as the second Silk Spectre in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, and she’s been more recently seen in Billions. In Rampage, the main villain role is described as “a calculating head of a tech company that is behind the monsters.”

Already on board along with Johnson are Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill.

For those not familiar with Rampage, the original arcade game was released in 1986 and allowed players to control one of three monsters. These were a giant ape named George, a giant lizard named Lizzy, and a giant werewolf named Ralph. Players would get to battle across the United States as they fought the military. That game would be followed by several sequels, which in turn brought more new characters and monsters into the fold as the action moved to the rest of the globe and even up to the stars.

To be directed by San Andreas’ Brad Peyton, shooting on Rampage is due to start next month in Atlanta, Georgia ahead of an April 20th, 2018 release.
