Ever since it was announced that Naughty Dog’s hugely successful THE LAST OF US was to be adapted for the big screen, GAME OF THRONES’ Maisie Williams was being touted for the role of Ellie, one of the leads of the award-winning video game. Speaking to Flicks and the City, the young actress has confirmed that she has already had talks about the role and that she hopes to join the feature.

Williams revealed, “I had a lunch a little while ago and we spoke about the possibility of me playing Ellie, and that’s really exciting and I would absolutely love to. It kind of all came about on Twitter a long time ago. The power of Twitter still never ceases to amaze me. I went to a lunch and we spoke a little bit about it, and then they announced it at Comic-Con that we had spoken about it, and since then in like every interview people have been asking me about it. Honestly, I would love to and I think they would love me to play Ellie also, and that’s where it is at the moment. There’s no script, no director, it’s still very early days for the whole project, but if it all goes ahead soon enough I think, yeah, I would love to.”

At present, Neil Druckmann, who penned the script for the game, is working on the screenplay for this movie adaptation. Druckmann will also produce alongside Evan Wells, Christophe Balestra, Bruce Straley, and Sam Raimi.

Expect more on this as it develops, although it seems extremely likely that Williams will indeed end up starring as Ellie in this big screen version of THE LAST OF US.
