The creators of NBC’s CONSTANTINE are to write out Lucy Griffiths’ character, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The former TRUE BLOOD actress had been cast as Liv Aberdine, a series companion to the defender against supernatural shenanigans, John Constantine. However, the show’s writers have decided to take the show in a different direction in which Aberdine is redundant.

Griffiths character will be replaced with one that will be familiar to readers of HELLBLAZER and CONSTANTINE, a character called Zed whom happens to be the girlfriend of Constantine and who posseses psychic abilities. How closely Zed will resemble her comic counterpart is unknown, but she will be the first of several Vertigo/DC characters to be introduced during the first season.

And what of the decision to make Constantine a non-smoker? Well, a source that has seen the pilot episode has revealed that although Constantine isn’t seen to smoke he does indeed stub out cigarettes. The same source also stated that they went in with very low expectations but by the end they were blown away by what they had seen.

Here’s hoping…!

CONSTANTINE will premiere on NBC on Friday, October 24th.
