Since moving from CBS to The CW for its second season, the Melissa Benoist-starring Supergirl has been given a fresh lease of life and has improved greatly. But the show’s titular Maid of Might best not take her foot off the pedal just yet, for two familiar villainous faces will be returning when the show returns early next year.

TV Line is reporting that Benoist’s Girl of Steel will once again have to tackle Brit Morgan’s Livewire and Frederick Schmidt’s Metallo as Season 2 progresses. When exactly these two rogues will turn up again has yet to be revealed, but the powers that be have also confirmed that some other to-be-announced villains will be returning later in the season as well.

The Livewire character debuted in Supergirl’s first season, initially tackling the Maid of Might on her own before returning later in the season to team up with Silver Banshee. That team-up didn’t work out all that well, however, largely due to Kara Zor-El getting some assistance from Grant Gustin’s Flash. As for Metallo, Schmidt’s John Corben debuted in the Season 2 premiere before being turned into the Kryptonite-fueled rogue. During his two appearances, it would take Supergirl and Tyler Hoechlin’s excellent Superman to stop Metallo in his tracks.

Supergirl returns to US screens on January 23rd with the Kevin Smith-directed Supergirl Lives. A UK return will follow on Sky1 shortly after.
