As part of the announcement that saw the BBC announce a new three-part take on H.G. Wells’ beloved The War of the Worlds, now comes news that the Beeb have also commissioned two further seasons of the hugely popular Line of Duty.

With the recent fourth season, with Vicky McClure and Thandie Newton at the fore, having viewers on the edge of their seats – an impressive 7.46 million people tuned in for the finale – the tense police drama has been confirmed for both a fifth and sixth seasons.

Creator Jed Mercurio had recently talked about how he’d love to make a sixth season but was unsure about the future of the show. Now, though, the BBC’s Tony Hall has confirmed at least two further seasons for a series that has recently had a huge popularity surge that has seen it become one of the most must-see shows on the tele box.

Interestingly, Mercurio has previously said how he’d be interested in doing more than six seasons of the show depending on how Season 5 was received.

As ever, expect more on the future seasons of Line of Duty as we get it.
