It seems that Leonardo DiCaprio’s recent speech on climate change was more than just talk, as he is on board to produce an adaptation of a YA novel on precisely that subject.

Kayla Orson’s as-yet unpublished debut novel The Sandcastle Empire is a post-apocalyptic (aren’t they all?) story set in 2049 where climate change, coastal flooding and overpopulation have devastated the world and a group known as the Wolfpack have overthrown the government.

A young woman named Eden (symbolic much?) escapes from one of the Wolfpack’s labour camps along with three other girls, the quartet afterwards journeying to the safety of an island. Along the way Eden discovers what happened to her missing father, as well as the part she has to play in overthrowing the tyrannical regime.
