Millennium Films have confirmed that they are planning a prequel to the classic 1974 film THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, and have hired Seth M. Sherwood to handle script duties.

Talking to TheWrap, an insider said the project, entitled LEATHERFACE, would be an origin and back-story of the eponymous face-wearing maniac. While Millennium Films’ TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D failed to impress, it still went on to make almost double its budget.

Carl Mazzocone will produce the project, with Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman exec-producing.

A director is expected to be announced soon, and the film will possibly begin shooting later this winter.
