Deadline is reporting that CBS’ SUPERGIRL has added a new cast member. Playing Alura Zor-El, the Kryptonian birth mother of the titular heroine, will be NASHVILLE’s Laura Benanti.

The official description on the character reads, “A strong noblewoman, Alura sends Kara to Earth to escape Krypton’s destruction. Her wisdom and guidance echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl.”

Benanti joins a cast that currently includes Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl and Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen.
