Controversial filmmaker Lars Von Trier made a haunting impression with his horror mini-series THE KINGDOM (1994-92), but has largely ignored the small screen since. Von Trier, despite his insistence that he’d never give interviews following his misguided comments in Cannes, 2011, the divisive director has appeared in Venice earlier this week via a computer link promoting the screening of the director’s cut of his latest cinematic effort, NYMPHOMANIAC. Although it was revealed that von Trier is returning to TV with THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT.

NYMPHOMANIAC producer Lousie Vesth announced amidst the press-baiting shtick between the director and Stellan Skarsgård, ‘Now, when he’s not able to speak, so he cannot say that it’s not true, I’m happy to announce that the next Lars von Trier project will be a TV series in the English language. He has a really really good idea which I cannot tell more about right now. He wants a huge cast and from what I heard I’m sure that it will be something that you have never seen before and you will definitely never see it again.

THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT will gather up a huge international cast, described by executive producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen as being ‘without precedent’, and warned ‘You better hold your breath’. The show is being developed on co-operation with the Danish broadcaster behind BORGEN and THE KILLING executive producer Piv Bernth.

Von Trier is slated to start work on the script this year, with an expected 2016 shoot.
