It seems the current trend for resuscitating ‘80s classics is still going strong, and now, according to Variety, The Jim Henson Company is getting in on the action with the news that sequels to both LABYRINTH and THE DARK CRYSTAL are in development.

To refresh your memory, LABYRINTH, starring a whining Jennifer Connolly and David Bowie’s crotch, sees teenage babysitter Sarah traverse a phantasmagorical maze to save her infant brother from the clutches of Jareth the Goblin King. THE DARK CRYSTAL was an entirely puppets, suits and animatronics film (with some absolutely terrifying creatures that gave us nightmares when we were kids), about a gelfling named Jem tasked with returning the lost shard of the titular monolith before a celestial conjunction in order to prevent the malevolent Skeksis from ruling the world forever.

If that wasn’t enough to make you despair for the future of creative originality/your inner eight-year-old squeal with delight (delete as applicable), there are also plans in place for a movie version of the playful subterranean chaos that was FRAGGLE ROCK.

As ever, more on these as they develop.
