Whilst we don’t know which character it will be, it looks as if Marvel Studios could be close to landing the man who they want to play Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The Wrap reports that director James Gunn wants Kurt Russell to play the father of Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill. At this stage, it’s unknown which Marvel character will be revealed to play Quill’s pops, although speculation is plentiful on just who it could be. Gunn himself has already confirmed that he won’t be using the comic book realm as direct inspiration, ruling out J’son, the Spartoi emperor who is Quill’s comic book daddy. As such, all bets are off when it comes to the mystery of who fathered Peter Quill.

This latest report goes on to say that Russell has yet to meet with Marvel or read the film’s script, but Gunn is said to be keen to get the Escape from New York, The Fog and Big Trouble in Little China actor on board.

At present, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently set for a May 5th, 2017.
