We all loved Kung Fury, right? Well, the director that 80s-tastic retro short is now lined up to tackle zombies!

As per Variety, David Sandberg – no, not Lights Out’s David F. Sandberg – has signed on to direct Zombie Brother for Free Association and Channing Tatum’s Tencent Pictures production company. Scooby-Doo’s Matt Lieberman has been given the task of penning the movie, which will be an adaptation of the Zombie Brother comic book property.

Sandberg is currently busy on the feature-length version of Kung Fury for Free Association, then he’ll move on to Zombie Brother, a comic that has already been adapted into an animated series and stage play over in China.

Premise-wise, Zombie Brother centres on a young fella whose hometown of City H is seeing its population slowly turn into zombies due to a contaminated water supply.

On this news, Tencent’s Edward Chang said, “Zombie Brother is one of the first products of Tencent’s trans-media pipeline, utilizing animation and comics, gaming, literature and live-entertainment platforms. The material has already attracted an incredible loyal fan base in China, and we are delighted to be working alongside Free Association in bringing this beloved IP to a global audience.”

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
