It was nearly 18 months ago that we first reported on Krypton, and now there’s finally some solid movement on the show.

TV Line is reporting that the series is close to getting a pilot order from Syfy, with the plan then to obviously move to a full season order. The idea for the show is to have it set on, you guessed it, Krypton 200 years ago, essentially focussing on Superman’s grandfather as the main character of the show.

The current synopsis for Krypton reads:

Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest superhero ever known.

The last we’d heard on this series, David S. Goyer was to executive produce, with Ian Goldberg penning the script for the pilot.

So, are you keen for Krypton? Do you think there’s any real need for such a show? Or do you think that exploring Superman’s granddaddy is a bit of a step too far?

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
