Last week brought word that plans were being put in place to eventually have King Kong and Godzilla do battle in a few years’ time, and now comes further news on that plan.

The Hollywood Reporter has some interesting news in regard to the Kong: Skull Island script. At the last count, the script for Skull Island features reference to Monarch, the monster-chasing organisation from Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla that featured Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins.

Whilst this would indeed plant the seeds for a future monster mash-up, an apparent insider told the outlet, “Legendary is confident it can come up with a rationale to explain how Kong and Godzilla can do battle – and possibly become allies.”

At this stage, any potential King Kong vs. Godzilla won’t be happening until around 2019, with Kong: Skull Island set for March 10th, 2017 and then Godzilla 2 to follow on June 8th, 2018.
