It’s been announced that a King Kong TV series is soon to go into development.

This news comes after MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television announced a partnership that will see them develop, co-produce and co-finance the show. While details are still being kept minimal at this early stage, it’s already been confirmed that the series will not tie in at all with Kong: Skull Island and the shared universe that movie shares with Godzilla. That said, it will actually be titled King Kong Skull Island… because that won’t get confusing at all.

This new show will be based on Joe DeVito’s artwork (shown at the top of this post) and Merian C. Cooper’s 1933 King Kong, and the action will take place in a live-action setting being described as the “King Kong Universe.” Already on board to write the series are Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title, with the pair also serving as executive producers alongside Dannie Festa.

The early official word on this intriguing new series describes it as:

Based on DeVito ArtWorks’ Skull Island property and Merian C. Cooper’s King Kong, King Kong Skull Island is a comprehensive King Kong Universe exclusively endorsed by Kong’s creator. The series is a serialized, contemporary continuation of the classic with a female-led, multi-cultural ensemble that delves fully into the wonders and horrors of Skull Island and its origins.

Expect to hear a whole lot more on this as we get it.
