Kevin Smith’s MALLRATS is a film that is adored by many (it’s this particular writer’s favourite Kev Smith movie), and the writer/director has revealed that he is finally planning a sequel to his 1995 Jason Lee-starrer.

Having teased the news on social media, Smith confirmed to Tucson’s Rock 102 KFMA, “Yeah, that’s what we’re working on. It’s half a script right now, and we’re pulling our loot together. We’ve got up until the beginning of 2016. By the time we get to May 2016, we’re going to be shooting.”

He added, “Lately I’ve been doing this thing where I’m like, ‘Do you want to do what’s good for your career or do you just want to have fun?’ Nobody’s clamouring for a MALLRATS sequel, but I would love to make one. It’s been, like, 20 years.’ And here we thought the View Askewniverse was closed for business…”

Seriously, this is news that brings a huge grin to the face of many of us here at Moonbase Alpha. To Kevin Smith, we thank you, sir.

Expect to hear a lot more on this as and when it develops.
