When Kevin Smith first dipped his toes into the darker side of cinema with the much-heralded RED STATE, it soon became known that the ending seen was not the one that the writer/director originally had in mind. The finale we saw was effective and worked well, but Smith initially had something far bigger in mind.

In a rather cool move, the original ending has now been put together in animated form, complete with explanation from Smith himself. Shown below, the video recently debuted on Entertainment Weekly’s Scene Unseen:

We personally loved RED STATE as it was, although it would’ve still been mighty cool to see a full-on slaughter-fest and then the Four Horseman.

Since that initial foray into horror, Smith has gone on to work on his dark trilogy of TUSK, YOGA HOSERS and MOOSE JAWS, with TUSK finally getting a UK DVD release on June 8th.
