With Thor: Ragnarok to be part of Marvel’s Phase 3 of films, the next solo outing for the God of Thunder is now circling a director.

Speaking to Popcorn Talk, Umberto Gonzalez of Heroic Hollywood has revealed that Kenneth Branagh is the main name in the frame to oversee Ragnarok at this stage. Gonzalez has previous for breaking huge stories, with him having been one of the main reporters for Latino Review for years. Branagh, of course, directed 2009’s Thor.

Gonzalez claims, “I was hearing that Marvel wanted Kenneth Branagh back for Thor 3 but he just got an offer to direct Murder on the Orient Express at Fox. So, I don’t know if it’s going to happen or not. They’re thinking about bringing him back into the fold.”

As for Thor: Ragnarok, based on the title alone it seems as if some huge things could be going down. There’s plenty of rumours out there that claim all will not end well for the Son of Odin…

Treat all of the above as merely speculation at this stage, although the return of Branagh would be a welcome one after Thor: The Dark World didn’t hit quite the heights that Marvel Studios was hoping for.

At present, Thor: Ragnarok is currently set for a November 3rd, 2017 release.
