Details are still relatively thin on the ground where Star Wars: Episode VIII is concerned, but now comes an interesting tidbit on one of the film’s new additions.

Earlier this year, Kelly Marie Tran, best known for her work with College Humor, was announced as joining Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII, and it appears that her role could be a lot larger than many first thought.

As reported by WhatCulture, John Boyega apparently let the cat out of the bag at the recent UK Gala Screening of Secrets of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the feature-length ‘making of’ documentary that will be a part of the home release of The Force Awakens. After gushing about how great the Episode VIII script is, Boyega, who plays Finn in the Star Wars saga, went on to say that Kelly Marie Tran is the “new lead” of Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Of course, this is all far from official, but the fact that John Boyega is talking up the importance of Tran’s character suggests she’ll be a big time player when Johnson’s Episode VIII hits cinemas on December 15th, 2017.

As ever, expect more on this as and when it develops.
