All in all, Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World was a rip-roaring success with fans, critics… and, most importantly for Universal, at the box office. As such, a sequel was a no-brainer, and now comes an update on where things currently stand on the next entry in the “Jurassic” franchise.

Jurassic Outpost and Reel New Hawaii have word that the Jurassic World sequel is actually due to start production in Hawaii early next year. February of next year, to be a bit more precise. Whilst production will start there, the majority of shooting will actually take place in London.

Trevorrow himself isn’t back to direct this time out, but he has put together the film’s script with Derek Connolly. The Jurassic World director is a little tied up after landing the gig of helming Star Wars: Episode IX. In Trevorrow’s place, The Impossible and A Monster Calls’ Juan Antonio Bayona will be directing this next Jurassic effort.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will both be reprising their Jurassic World roles, with the current plan for this next film to be released on June 22nd, 2018.

To put into perspective just how huge Jurassic World was, it amassed a whopping $1.67 billion at the global box office during its 2015 release, which is more than any Marvel Cinematic Universe effort to date. Given that the bigger MCU releases are used as the box office measuring stick these days, this is certainly quite the impressive achievement.
