JURASSIC WORLD Confirmed to be a Trilogy

Following Colin Trevorrow’s hugely successful Jurassic World, no time was wasted in announcing a sequel to that movie. But now comes word that the current plan is for Jurassic World to actually operate as a trilogy.

Trevorrow himself is too busy on a little flick known as Star Wars: Episode IX to return to direct the Jurassic World follow-up, and so The Orphanage’s Juan Antonio Bayona is the man tasked to helm the sequel from a script being currently worked on by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. And now Bayona has revealed that Jurassic World is actually a trilogy.

Speaking to Latino Review, Bayona explained, “I think they love The Impossible and The Orphanage – especially Colin loved those movies. It’s very interesting. The whole Jurassic World is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We’re writing the second chapter, and it’s very interesting where he’s leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”

At present, the still-untitled Jurassic World sequel is set for a June 22nd, 2018 release, with production expected to start on the movie in February.
