With Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe bow in May’s Avengers: Infinity War, her 2019 solo movie has brought in a new addition in the form of Jude Law.

As per Variety, Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a mentor who will help Larson’s Carol Danvers come to terms with the superpowers bestowed upon her. As a comic book character, Doc Lawson was actually the secret identity of the original Captain Marvel, aka the Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Interestingly, the outlet reports that Law’s Lawson will also be Mar-Vell in this upcoming MCU effort.

Already on board for Captain Marvel is Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn as the ‘big bad’ of the picture, seemingly the leader of the nefarious alien Skrulls. Whilst it’s unofficial, it’s also believed that Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his Nick Fury role in a two-eyed capacity. Given the ‘90s setting for the film, the action will take place during a period when Fury still had both of his peepers as opposed to rocking the eye patch look.

For those not familiar with the Carol Danvers character, she debuted back in 1968, initially a member of the US air force before later becoming Ms. Marvel in 1977 following a previous tangle with explosive Kree technology. In 2012, Danvers was given a “promotion” to the mantle of Captain Marvel. As part of her powers, she’s able to project and absorb energy as well as having the usual superhuman strength and speed not to mention the ability to fly.

To be directed by Mississippi Grind’s Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel is currently set for a March 8th, 2019 release.
