Who doesn’t love Archer? FX’s fantastic animated series has been a favourite of many ever since it first debuted in 2009, and there’s often been talk of a live-action movie happening. Whilst a movie is still far from a certainty, it’s been revealed that Mad Men’s Jon Hamm is wanted for the lead role should a live-action movie ever come to be.

Speaking to The Daily Beast about who could play the character in live-action, Archer producer Matt Thompson said, “It’s Jon Hamm. If Archer goes live-action, I do believe it will be Jon Hamm. Maybe you could do it with Jon Benjamin’s voice coming out of him? I don’t know. Adam is always like, ‘I don’t know if I want the movie to be live-action because I want it to be Jon Benjamin!’ But if it is live-action – and if it is not Jon Benjamin – it is our greatest hope that it would be Jon Hamm. I can say that with confidence.”

In case you hadn’t guessed, Jon Benjamin is the voice behind the animated character, and he is absolutely pitch-perfect for what is needed from the cocksure, suave, sarcastic Archer. If the character is to be taken to live-action, though, Hamm physically has the part nailed.

With all of this said, don’t expect an Archer movie just yet. All involved in the series have regularly stated that there won’t be a movie as long as the animated series is still ongoing. The show has just finished its seventh season, with no plans to bring the hugely-successful series to an end yet.
