With Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hitting cinemas later this month, it’s been revealed that Johnny Depp has joined the franchise for its next outing.

This follows on recent news that Fantastic Beasts will actually be a five-movie franchise, and Depp will be a part of the second of these pictures. Deadline is reporting the news, but Depp’s role in the franchise is being kept secret for now. That said, the outlet is suggesting that the actor may actually have a small cameo of sorts in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

From J.K. Rowling, this new franchise is designed as a Harry Potter spin-off, with Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander the focus of the attention here as his New York adventure sees him take in a secret community of witches and wizards. The action takes place 70 years before Harry reads Scamander’s books during his school days.

David Yates, who is directing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is already confirmed to be helming the sequel. As for Johnny Depp, up next for him is Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express, then the Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls-centred Labyrinth, and then he switches his attention to headlining Universal’s new take on The Invisible Man.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits UK cinemas on November 18th.
