It’d seem mighty strange for either franchise to continue without him, but it’s now been confirmed that the legendary John Williams will be back to work on Star Wars – Episode VIII and the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie.

Speaking to Variety at an American Film Institute to honour his work, on Episode VIII Williams said,”If I can do it, I certainly will. I told Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley.”

On the Indy front, Access Hollywood’s Scott Mantz took to Twitter to say, “Breaking! At the @AmericanFilm Tribute, #StevenSpielberg confirmed that #JohnWilliams will score #IndianaJones 5!”

To see an entry in either the Star Wars or Indiana Jones franchises without Williams on board would just seem wrong, so it’s great to hear that the 84-year-old icon will be back for these upcoming efforts.

At present, Rian Johnson’s Star Wars – Episode VIII is set for a December 15th, 2017 release, whilst Spielberg’s Indiana Jones 5 is penciled in for a July 19th, 2019 release.
