To many of us here at Moonbase Alpha (well, maybe just this particular writer…), Bryan Bertino’s 2008 horror The Strangers was a mightily enjoyable, tension-filled, edge-of-your-seat, thrill-ride of a movie and we’ve been anxiously awaiting that long-mooted sequel ever since we first saw it.

The last concrete news we’d heard on the film was back in December 2015 when it was given a December 2nd, 2016 release date. Obviously that date has been and gone, but now the film has started to move forward once more by bringing in a director.

With BLOOM having new taken the international rights to The Strangers 2, the sequel has brought in The Other Side of the Door’s Johannes Roberts – which if you ask us, is a great choice. And while Bertino won’t be back to direct, he’s putting together the sequel’s script along with Ben Ketai.

On the news, Roberts said, “Working with The Fyzz and BLOOM to bring the brilliant set-up from the first movie to a new generation and deliver a powerful sequel is incredibly exciting.”

Plot-wise, the previous reports on the sequel said that the focus would be on a family who are close to sending their troubled teen daughter to boarding school. Embarking on one final family holiday to a mobile home park, things take a twisted turn when they find some dead bodies and it’s soon revealed that Man in the Mask, Pin Up Girl, and Dollface are lurking nearby.

Casting is believed to already be underway on The Strangers 2, with the film expected to start shooting this summer.
