When Warner Brothers announced their SUICIDE SQUAD line-up, Tom Hardy was on board as Rick Flag(g). Hardy quickly departed the project, supposedly down to reduced screen time for Flag in order to give more focus to The Joker and Deadshot, and the role has still not been filled.

Initially, Jake Gyllenhaal was said to be the frontrunner to replace Hardy, especially with him having worked with director David Ayer on END OF WATCH. Gyllenhaal was apparently quick to rule himself out, but now The Wrap is reporting that it could well be RoboCop who ends up with the gig. Yes, Joel Kinnaman, who played Murphy in the ROBOCOP redo, is now the new favourite to play Rick Flag.

No deal has been agreed at this stage, but Kinnaman is said to be close to signing on to the villain-centric film. If he does indeed end up on board, he’ll join Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

SUICIDE SQUAD is currently set for an August 5th, 2016 release.
