In some rather fantastic news, Joe Johnston has been brought in to direct the upcoming Chronicles of Narnia return, Narnia: The Silver Chair.

As per Variety, Johnston has been given the nod in a production that comes from TriStar Pictures, the Mark Gordon Company, the C.S. Lewis Company, and Entertainment One. The Life of Pi’s David Magee is adapting the novel for the big screen. Johnston, of course, is best known to genre fans for the likes of The Rocketeer, Jumanji, Jurassic Park III, The Wolfman, and Captain America: The First Avenger.

On this news, Mark Gordon enthused, “Joe is a wonderful storyteller who is equally at home in the biggest franchises and the most intimate character pieces. Because C.S. Lewis’ story is iconic and epic, but also tender, personal, and emotional, he’s the perfect choice to bring The Silver Chair to the screen.”

Whereas the previous Narnia movies have followed the story of the Pevensie children, The Silver Chair switches its attention to their cousin Eustace Scrubb, who ends up heading to Naria to save the kidnapped child of Prince Caspian.

To date, the Narnia franchise has taken nearly $1.6 billion in total from its three outings – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
