In what could prove to be a masterful piece of casting, J.K. Simmons is to play Jim Gordon in Warner Brothers’ DC Cinematic Universe.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, with it confirmed that Commissioner Gordon will debut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League: Part One. Simmons, of course, is best known to genre fans for his fantastic turn as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, not to mention roles in the likes of Whiplash, Terminator Genisys, and Juno.

As for Gordon’s role, it’s expected that he’ll have a working relationship with Ben Affleck’s Batman, especially considering how Affleck’s Caped Crusader has been protecting Gotham and beyond for years by the time we’re introduced to him later this month in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Gordon character would then obviously have a presence in any solo Batman movies that should arrive over the next few years.

At present, Snyder’s Justice League: Part One is set for a November 10th, 2017 release. Before that, we’ll get to see Affleck’s Dark Knight make his big screen bow when Batman v Superman arrives on March 25th.
