With it recently confirmed that Hulu and J.J. Abrams are developing Castle Rock – a series based around stories from the legendary Stephen King – Abrams has now moved to give us a tease of what to expect.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Abrams enthused over how the show will feature various King-created characters, saying, “Castle Rock is this town that he made famous in all these different books; and these two writers, Dustin Thomason and Sam Shaw, came up with the incredibly cool, terrifying, weird, funny idea of a series, new story, that takes place in this town. And all of these characters from Stephen King’s books sort of are peripherally involved. We pitched it to Stephen King. He went nuts for it.”

At present, Castle Rock is set for a ten-episode first season. For those well versed in King’s work, Castle Rock is part of the author’s fictional Maine topography and is often used as the setting for his stories. The locale first appeared in 1979’s The Dead Zone and has been used as recently as 2014’s Revival. Some of King’s more famous Castle Rock-set works include Cujo and Needful Things, while heavy hitters such as ItThe Stand and even Creepshow reference the town.

Being developed for Hulu by Abrams’ Bad Robot, Castle Rock will be based in King’s infamous location. To be an anthology series, the show will bring together characters and tales from the whole host of King stories set in Castle Rock, and each season of the series will focus on a different set of characters.
