It’s been revealed that Jimmy Vee is the person tasked with playing R2-D2 in this year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, with this being confirmation that Vee has now taken over from the late Kenny Baker as everyone’s favourite astromech droid. Vee had actually worked as R2-D2 on The Force Awakens, although full credit for that went to Baker. The actor’s previous credits include Doctor Who and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

In a statement released by the Oh So Small production agency, Vee said, “It’s been an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside the legendary Kenny Baker. Kenny was a fantastic actor and taught me all the ‘tricks’ on how he brought R2-D2 to life, which I will continue to portray in his honour. I’m so excited to be a part of the Star Wars universe and can’t for everyone to see what we’ve been working so hard on for the last year.”

Picking up from The Force Awakens, Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi will feature Mark Hamill, the late Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Anthony Daniels, Andy Serkis, and franchise newbies Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.

The Last Jedi is currently set for a December 15th release.
