The tail end of 2014 brought confirmation that Matt Damon would be making his return to the BOURNE franchise. With a sequel already planned for Jeremy Renner’s THE BOURNE LEGACY, questions were thrown up as to whether the Renner sequel would still go ahead, whether Renner’s Aaron Cross and Damon’s Jason Bourne would share some screen time, and what direction the franchise was going to go in.

Since then, it was revealed that Damon would feature in the next BOURNE movie, to be directed by the returning Paul Greengrass, and now comes word that Renner’s Cross will not appear in that film. At least not at this stage. When asked about Renner sharing time with Damon, producer Frank Marshall told Collider, “We don’t have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that’s not the plan. They’re on separate tracks.”

Where this leaves Renner’s involvement in the franchise is up for debate, although the Damon-starring next instalment in the popular franchise is to hit screens on July 29th, 2016, with it recently pushed back from its planned July 15th, 2016 release.
